Program
The mentoring program is at seven school sites (elementary and middle school) and employs over 20 full-time trained and passionate mentors.
We are proud to partner with school districts and sites across the Antelope Valley to provide consistent mentorship and support where students need it most

Together, we’re helping students dream bigger, achieve more, and become leaders in their communities.
Our mentors are trained in flagship programs, such as, Capturing Kids Hearts, PBIS and PlayWorks strategies. Many have completed post-secondary education or are pursuing higher education. All have a passion and deep commitment to youth development.
We are committed to investing in the academic, physical, social, emotional growth of our students and offer a holistic approach to youth development. Our goal is to provide an additional layer of support to students, being a catalyst for joy on campus and helping students find and deepen their love for learning. We are seeing gains in student engagement and attendance, as well as, a shift in campus climate and culture due to the support provided by the Project Joy mentoring program.
The program structure is flexible as we are grounded in best practices while also adapting to best meet the unique needs of individual school sites.
Each site is unique. At some sites we create outdoor interactive classrooms using gardening techniques. At other sites our focus is starting or reviving student clubs and special activities, including media, music and performing arts. Still others rely on us to bring structured play and sports tournaments.
No matter the approach and goal is always the same. Help spark a lifelong love for learning in students and help create a positive, inclusive campus that children are excited to be a member of.
